Florida Everglades Bass Fishing Report 3/29/2008

Big Florida Everglades Bass

The Florida Everglades are AWESOME in March, April, May and June!

Just ask our last few clients we have had as we have had a big fish on almost every trip! We have finally been back into the swing of things as far as big fish go down here as you can see with the boys above and our best 5 which were in the 20 pound range. It has been a long wait but most of the big females are off of the beds and back into the canals looking to recover. They are in a post spawn mode eating only a handful of times daily and looking for the biggest most nutritious meals that they can find. This is when we start to throw big baits at them like huge live shiners and artificial baits like frogs and snakes that are high in protein as these baits are what the bigger bass are eating right now in the glades.

Today I had the pleasure of fishing with Dave Kent and his two boys Josh and Sam. The boys brought along 3 of their friends who fished with John Pate, one of our other bass fishing guides. We had a blast today out in the Florida everglades fishing for largemouth bass and whatever else would bite. The Kents are good fishermen thus did their fair share of damage to my swamp today landing a few really nice bass and a host of smaller fish. The grand total for both boats today was well over 40 bass and a few big mudfish. All of the bass were released unharmed for the next angler to enjoy. We were fishing live shiners on a free-lined tossing them under the trees and at the grass on the edges of the canals as well as working the coral reef ledge. However, our bigger fish today all came on artificial baits. The biggest girl of the day…every bit of 6 pounds ate a Zoom horny toad in watermelon candy and some of the others that came on artificials included a pair of 3 pounders that we got on trick worms in watermelon red. Johns boat added the fish close to 5 pounds and a solid 4 to finish out our bag. What a great time we had today in the Florida everglades with good weather, good times and awesome bass fishing!
