Florida Everglades Bass Fishing Report 3/27/2008

Florida Largemouth Bass

3 Year old Will from Chicago caught a monster bass today in the glades!

We are coming off of a full moon right now and it is not setting until about 11:00 a.m. so on nights that are not cloudy the fish are feeding all night under the light of the moon. This makes the fishing a little tougher the day after. We had to slow way down using small live shiners which is not necessarily my favorite way to fish but it sure beats the heck out of not catching anything at all.

We only had 4 hours to fish today with the two little guys aboard so we grabbed some live shiners from the tackle shop and headed out to Holiday Park in the Florida everglades. We did not catch very many fish today but we got a nice one. I think 6 was the grand total for our 1/2 day with 3 or 4 of the fish being butterfly peacock bass. Will who is just 3 years old was working with my ultra-light spinning rod spooled with 4 pound test and hooked into this 5+ pound largemouth bass on a live shiner all by himself! He told me that he had a fish on and before I knew it the fish was pulling drag. Frank in the pic above helped the young angler wrestle the monster bass back to the boat and finally into the net. Boy was he right about having a fish on… Mighty fine job guys it was a lot of fun watching you catch that fish!
