Don and his 2 friends had a great time fishing the peacock bass!

Well these 3 lucky guys are well ahead of the game if you ask me…not only are they leaving on a cruise to the Caribbean in the morning… they got to skip out on a day of shopping with the wives on Miami Beach…and they also got to go fishing here in Miami with me!

We had a fun morning landing some small peacocks, a jaguar guapote and a largemouth. Then Don says “I got a good one” and this little 5 pound snook towed him around for a while on that spinning outfit we were using. I think that made the day for Don!

The bite was a bit slower for me today than it has been but we still caught some really nice peacocks and as always had a great time out on the water.

BIG EL on day 2 in Miami fishing for butterfly peacock bass!

Today started out rainy on us and we almost called it off completely. The guys were late getting to the tackle shop because they were having a hard time reaching me…it usually helps if you turn your phone on…anyways the minor delay turned out to be a good thing as the rain decided to give us a lull for about 4 hours.

This worked out great since the guys only had 3 hours or so to fish before they had to get back to their business meetings in Ft. Lauderdale. We went after some bedding fish that I have way back in the canal system and got right on them. There were not as many fish up top as there has been with all the rains but we managed 4 or 5 up to 5 pounds in just 3 short hours. What a blast!

Mike and EL had a great day bass fishing at lake Okeechobee!

Mike and his buddy EL down from Chicago on business found some time to do a little bass fishing here on lake Okeechobee! We launched right in the middle of the FLW tour takeoff which was a bit of a pain with all the boat traffic but once we got to our fishing hole it was on!

Shiner fishing on the lake has now ruined two more anglers that like myself are die hard artificial guys…both commented on how it was unbelievable how many fish we were catching out of one small spot that is only maybe 50 feet wide…it really is amazing to experience…I hope that all of you reading this can do it with me soon!

Wagner and Andre from Bela Horizante in Brazil at Okeechobee!

I find it very neat that the Brazilian people have a love for black bass fishing! I guess that it is no different than my love for the peacock bass that is native to their country. I want to go there to fish big peacocks and they want to come here to fish big bass…what a deal!

Well the boys and I fished the BIG O today and had a lot of fun. We sure missed a bunch of fish today…they were eating the bait really weird for us…In any event we managed 30 or largemouth up to 5 pounds which in my books is a wonderful day of bass fishing and with great fishing companions like my new Brazilian buddies it only made it that much better!

Come on down to Sunny South Florida and lets do some bass fishing!

Andrew and Nick from Palm Beach had a banner day on the BIG O!

Today was my buddy Nick’s birthday and he wanted to spend it out on the lake with his friend Andrew doin’ some bassin’! I met the guys in Clewiston at Roland Martins marina and we headed out. With a little cold front that was blowing over us and a hard NW wind I suggested that we start the morning off with some live baits.

Andrew launched the first shiner out to the hole and landed this almost 7 pound Okeechobee monster! Needless to say the guys were hooked on the shiner fishing and we ended up spending a good part of our day drowning baits and laughing over a cold beer or two! What a great way to spend a birthday! Thanks guys for sharing it with me!

Dan from Pennsylvania and a monster Okeechobee Largemouth

Dan got an Okeechobee special as you can see above. This 9 pound mama destroyed a Gambler Big EZ for us! It was cool you could see the fish moving around on her bed in about 2 feet of water so Dan made a long bomb cast past the bed and she freekin whammed it!

We got lucky to land this one as once I was finally able to slide the net under her the hook came out!! Unbelievable! We had a great couple of days fishing together and with some of the bass that Dan caught I know he will be back next year to do battle again with those “bass in the grass”

We hammered them again…this time on lake Okeechobee!

Well day 2 was a dandy also…we made the trip to lake Okeechobee this morning and launched at the South end near Slims fish camp on Torry Island. I have been fishing down here a lot lately and man has it been fun! There is endless grass fields on the inside and cattail heads outside that make it a very versatile area, especially if the wind blows hard because you can get inside and out of it.

The fish in the picture above was our first cast after a 20 minute boat ride…needless to say the guys were excited after seeing that. We caught the bass one after the other all day long. Our best 5 went 32 pounds + change… and as always….the BIG ONE got away!!

We have AWESOME peacock bass fishing in Florida!

This fishery that we have here in the metropolitan Miami area is second to none! I do not know of another system anywhere in our country one where you can catch a peacock bass and a largemouth in the same day and in addition have the chance to catch snook, tarpon, jacks, among many other species!

Day one of our 2 day adventure started out after the feisty peacocks. With the mild winter that we are having they are doing great and even already in the spawning mode in certain areas of the lake and canal system. If the peacocks are on your bucket list then come on down and lets get it done!

Ian from North Carolina and a nice Okeechobee largemouth bass!

I love it when this group of guys comes down as we have a lot of fun fishing together! The tough part is that we always seem to get horrible weather conditions for our trips. Ben and Ian please leave that stuff at home with you next time!!!

This week there were some hurdles with a bug going around making some sick and a nasty cold front that left us with 40 degree weather and 30 mph winds…We still had a ball though and managed to find a few fish as we always do. I think this one was Ian’s biggest of our last day on the water. Thanks guys and cant wait to do it again!

Mickey Cleveland and I on Lake Okeechobee Bass Fishing!

Mickey is a great client of ours and comes down a couple times every year. We have done the everglades and the peacocks on past trips so now it was time to hit the BIG O. I met Mickey in Clewiston – we grabbed some shiners at Roland Martins Marina and we were off.

We hammered the heck out of the fish today but we did not get any real monsters! I dont know how you can catch sooo many 5 pounders out of the same spot! That really shows you how many we pass up when throwing lures…unbelievable! Well Mickey my friend thanks for a fun day! Until the next trip….

Steve Chenier and I had a great day on Lake Okeechobee!

Steve is down from Canada every year around this time visiting family and always finds a day to do some bass fishing. This time I suggested that we fish lake O for some of our bucket mouth bruisers. Steve agreed and made the drive up from Ft. Lauderdale to meet me.

Well was it worth it! Steve caught the biggest bass of his life and about an hour later caught an even bigger one! This lake is something special right now guys and with our beautiful weather here in South Florida there is not a better time to come on down and do some South Florida bassin with us!

Nickhy Nath caught some beautiful peacock bass in Miami, FL!

Nickhy and his Dad Sanil come down every year and fish with me for a day or two. We always have a great time together and am always amazed at how good of an angler young Nickhy is becoming. He does everything himself. His Dad has taught him well!

We fished in the Miami area today for the peacock bass and caught them great even with the cooler weather. Crazy enough we actually found one on a bed which is nits for this time of year. Lets hope that our winter is a mild one and these fish will continue to thrive as they are doing right now!

Steve McDonald and a monster lake Okeechobee bass to kick off 2012!

Well guys 2012 is off and running and as you see we are catching some BIG bass here in South Florida. Lake Okeechobee is unreal right now and will be over the next several months while the large female bass are in the shallow spawning areas of the lake. This is a great time to be here fishing one of the huge wild shiners on the lake as the action is steady all day long and the quality if fish we are catching is crazy.

If you are into the artificial stuff like a lot of our clients then get ready to wrestle those big girls out of the grass. It is flippin sticks and braided line on all our gear! This is some intense fishing guys so you have something to look forward to. Give me a call to get your trip started!

Dave and his wife had a great day peacock bass fishing in Florida!

I always love the opportunity to get to guide the men and women that keep this country safe. Today I am out with MP Sgt. Dave Brugger and his new bride Jenn Brugger and able to be a part of their fishing honeymoon. What a gal Dave found…one that wants to go fishing on your honeymoon! She is OK in our book Dave and a very good angler herself!

We fished the Miami airport lakes and canals today to around 20 peacocks up to 4 1/2 pounds. The peacocks are doing quite well again and with the warm weather that we still have the fishery will remain productive well into the new year. Should we not get the real bad cold fronts of the past several seasons I am looking for a major early spawn this year likely starting in late February or early March. This is a great time to be down here in Florida targeting the peacocks.
